I’d Cry if I Weren’t So Angry

New York voted to deny gay marriage. The reason? All the usual, predominantly religious bullshit which doesn’t stand up under one moment of scrutiny. 8 Democrats and all the Republicans voted against it, for totals of 38-24. New Yorkers, please feel some shame, your representatives denied your fellow human beings rights in one of the most liberated countries in the world. This is your fight too.

At the very least, we have people like Diane Savino, who understands the magnitude of the debate. She can speak more eloquently than I could attempt to, so please enjoy:

However, as shitty as that news is, it absolutely pales in comparison to the crime against humanity that is Uganda’s Anti-Gay Bill. It’s bad enough that this bill would make even suspected homosexuality illegal, but any practicing gays (just people being people, the way ‘God’ made them) could actually be put to death. Once again, Rachel Maddow does an amazing job of outlining this travesty:

Yup, just days after World AIDS Day, Uganda, with the implicit support of a major leader of a church in America,  wants to KILL ALL THE GAYS! Excuse the obscenity, but seriously, Uganda, and Rick Warren. FUCK. YOU.

Religions of the world, this is your chance to stand up for morality and human rights, compassion and love, by condemning these bigoted assholes. Silence is tantamount to support, so let us all, for the sake of humanity, protest something that is worth protesting. I, for one, won’t stand for this garbage, and anybody with an ounce of decency shouldn’t either.

Oh, and for good measure, this is a summary of every argument in the book for gay marriage and the appropriate responses (thanks to Comedy Central). As you can see, essentially all of the arguments against allowing gay marriage boil down to bigotry and ignorance of various degrees.

Or, how to stop looking like a bigoted moron in one simple flowchart
