Falcon 9 Soars

Today marks a fully successful test of SpaceX‘s Falcon 9 rocket. I’ve previously mentioned the Falcon 9 as a viable alternative to NASA’s over budget and behind schedule next generation space technology, but to see this elegant, simple rocket take to the skies at a fraction of the price, well, it makes me almost optimistic for humanities future among the stars.

This is only a first step, but the dragon module that was also being tested could contain up to seven people. For the future, that could mean cheap low-orbit tourism (and not just edge of space stuff, like Virgin is betting on) as well as a real space-taxi that is capable of docking with the ISS.
