(Hopefully Unfounded) Predictions of Violence

I am seriously beginning to fear for the lives of Muslim Americans. The “Summer of Bigotry”, fuelled primarily by Faux News and being used unapologetically by their stooges in the Repubilcan Party, has turned those who practice Islam into a visible target for racist, violent bigots. Lest us look no further than the farce that is the ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ where islamobigots are currently protesting a clear cut expression of first amendmant rights. Within this tumultuous, ignorant crowd, a passerby was mistaken for a muslim, resulting in an extremely tense confrontation with the crowd.

I can only imagine what would have happened to that guy were he actually a Muslim. It may have been similar to the cabbie who was stabbed in his own cab after being pointedly asked if he were a Muslim. The rhetoric is very heated these days, and it is only a matter of time before this islamophobia unambiguously is linked to domestic terrorism.

It is an unfortunate fact that this year’s celebration of the end of Ramadan, The Eid, happens to fall on a date that the islamobigots find sacred: namely September 11th. For those who aren’t in the know, the Eid is a period of celebration in which the faithful break their month-long fast. But for the 1 in 5 Americans that are breathtakingly stupid, this coincidence is very likely to be misinterpreted.

All it takes is a lone gunmen, much like the recent holocaust museum shooter, or the two anti-government Arkansas shooters, or the “Anti-socialist” Pentagon Shooter, or the almost Times Square bomber, or the Assassination of George Tiller by a right wing extremist in his own church. Look, nutjobs will be nutjobs, but the right wing media is actively engaged in egging on these deranged lunatics.

Mark my words, America: The day is coming where innocent Americans will be deliberately targeted and killed by right-wing, racist lunatics, unambiguously inspired and motivated by Fox News. It is indicative of this lunacy that I beg all Americans to heed the words of President Bush, speaking here while ground zero was still smoldering.

I’ve made it clear that the war against terrorism is not a war against Muslims, nor is it a war against Arabs. It’s a war against evil people who conduct crimes against innocent people

I hope the day never comes, but if it does, let us all remember who it was that allowed and encouraged those evil acts to occur. For it is them that will have the blood of innocent Americans on their hands.

  1. Eerily similar to my post, only expounded upon better.
By the way, you stole my gravatar!

    • Well, parallel parallel universe evil spock gravatar user, I’ll change mine if you’d like me to! You had it first. Still, very eerie.

  2. Unfortunately you have “news” sources like Fox and the New York Post making a killing off of fear and hate-mongering and a mass of people so desperate for someone to blame the troubles on. This “ground zero mosque” affair falls apart with a simple application of common sense, but I’ve seen even reasonably intelligent people get caught up in it.

And then there is the politicians exploiting it. Scum like Giulliani and Rick Lazio who claim to have New Yorkers best interests in mind, this affair made the chance of me ever voting for either of them go from .05% to 0%, and even better, opportunists who probably never even been to New York like Palin, Tim Pawlenty and that embarrassment to democrats that is Harry Reid. These people show just how fucked this country really is. Add in an ineffective president who refuses to back up the few times he stands up for the right thing, and you get more reasons why I’m ready to move back to Canada already.
